Art Made with 550,000 Paper Dots
Art | Jeewan | November 10, 2008 atASPIRING artist Nikki Douthwaite is seeing spots before her eyes… 550,000 of them to be exact. From a distance her work – depicting a Sunday afternoon in the centre of Paris – may look like an ordinary painting.
But get close to the staggering piece of work and it becomes clear that it is made up of tiny circles of coloured paper from a hole punch. For 18 hours a day, for the past three months, Nikki has been painstakingly sticking each dot in place with glue and a pair of tweezers.
And now the massive work, measuring 10.5ft by 7ft, is on display at Manchester Metropolitan University. [Via]

Making a virtue out of a level of O.C.D. that would get others medicated. Good for her! (I wish I could find how to do this with my anxiety/depression
I did this sort of thing for a design class for the Spring ’11 semester. We had to reproduce a master painting using only hole-punch sized dots of magazine paper. The hardest part was matching the colors and coming up with an enormous amount of patience.
Speaking from the little bit of experience I have, this is truely some awesome work she’s done!
