Israel and Hamas | The Story of a Cease Fire Gone Wrong | 37 Pics
Pictures | Jeewan | January 2, 2009 atBack in June, 2008, Egypt helped broker a 6-month cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the ruling body in the Gaza Strip. Though the cease-fire was broken several times by both sides, it largely held. Toward the end of the cease-fire in December, Israel, while closing Gaza’s borders since November, indicated that it might extend the agreement, if Hamas ceased all Qassam rocket attacks. Qassam rockets are the crude but deadly homemade missiles often launched towards Israeli territory (over 3,000 times in 2008 alone). Hamas leaders, angered by the blockade and seemingly little political headway made over the past 6 months, recently stepped up rocket attacks on Israel once again. Israel has now responded with five days (so far) of air attacks and Naval bombardment on Gaza, resulting in over 350 dead, nearly 1,500 wounded and countless buildings and smugglers’ tunnnels destroyed. Hamas has threatened to increase the rocket attacks send suicide bombers into Israel in retaliation, and Israel is massing troops and tanks around Gaza for a possible ground assault. Imagine this. If a next door neighbour keeps slaping your child deliberately everytime he passes your door, are you going to wait until your child goes deaf or looses a eye, or worse wait for a fatal blow.
Hamas is a terrorist organization. And i beg to differ on the missles. Home made missles dont go for a 40 km range. They use grad missiles and most of their stockpile comes from Iran.
the arab nations and all those in favour of these terrorist cry to the UN of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Look at them, on tv. You dont have to be analyst to understand. Does anyone in gaza looks undernourished? If the world is so bothered about undernourishment, they should go to africa. Bloody hypocrites!
Everyone is bootlicking the terrorist and their hanky brothers. Only Israel and to some extent US is showing some real guts against these murderers.
We should all learn lessons from Israel, to do pre-empted strikes. I think israel waited too long and beared too much shit from hamaz, but better late than never. Which country in the world, warns the citizens of its enemy first to leave before attacking. I think its the most humane army in the world.
I am an indian, and india should learn from israel and preempt pakistani terrorists too. Hope they show some backbone against the terrorists, before there is a repeat of mumbai attacks.
I completely agree with your comment, Mhashilkar
